Let’s Not Forget…

Fifty years ago on the 20 July 1969, Apollo 11’s Neil Armstrong became the first human to set foot on the Moon.

It marked the breathtaking technical advances of America’s aerospace research and exploration programme under NASA.  It cost untold billions of dollars and lights burned late into the night in the Kremlin; not so much because of the moon landing, but Soviet analysts now realised the awesome power of the Saturn V, a rocket that could deliver a huge payload anywhere on the planet.

Part of that momentous event was played by a brilliant Texan electronics engineer who developed a seismograph for use on the Lunar surface. That man was the late Charles Garrett, who went on to head Garrett Electronics, of Garland, Texas, manufacturers of the renowned Garrett Metal Detector brand.

While the Moon landing’s Golden Anniversary celebrations are in full swing, let’s remember that the Apollo Programme not only came with a hefty multi-billion dollar price tag, but also cost the lives of three of America’s finest; Ed White, Gus Grissom and Roger Chaffee, who all perished in Apollo 1’s cabin fire during a launch rehearsal test at Cape Kennedy in 1967.

God Bless them.

Only The Names Have Been Changed to protect the Guilty.

An octogenarian Detectorist attends a hospital Out-Patients department for a CT Scan. The Reception nurse tells him she wants to check that all is in order with the various blue-pill-viagra-whistling-sunglasses-cool-cartoon-character-isolated-white-background-eps-file-available-56553843forms, and paperwork. She reads aloud a list of questions to discover what medication, if any, the T’Her might be taking.  He replies “No”to all. She then asks if there’s anything else he might have missed.

“Well actually, yes, there is,” says our man.

“What are you taking then?”she enquires.

“Viagra,”he replies.

She stares at him in total disbelief.

“Do do you mean to tell me that you and your wife are still active in bed?”

 “No,” he says,

“Then why are you taking ‘Viagra?” says the perplexed nurse.

“I take it to stop me rolling out of bed at night.”
